2 Timothy 1:7 - For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.
Yesterday, being Mother's Day, our pastor talked about moms...duh :). But he talked about the impact Timothy's mother Eunice and grandmother Lois had on him, instilling in him an unshakable faith. (2 Timothy 1). As he was sharing, 2 Timothy 1:7 stood out to me. The Spirit (Holy Spirit) God gave us gives us power, love and self-discipline. If he chose these three things, they must be important qualities to have. I started out the beginning of 2011 with the goal of working on self-discipline. I did really well for a couple of months. I exercised, went an entire month without sugar and felt great! Then, I missed a few days, that turned into a few weeks, that turned into a few months. I put off exercising, started eating sugar again and went back into some of my old habits. I was really convicted as I read this passage yesterday. I know my girls need to see that I really love Jesus, not just that I say I do. This doesn't just mean I go to church every Sunday, serve during the week and pray with them each night. My whole life has to love Jesus. If the Holy Spirit gives me self-discipline, I need to use it, because we are given what we need! So, this morning I woke up at 6, spent quiet time with the Lord, exercised and am determine to live a life of power, love and self-discipline, in Christ! I want to be an example of Jesus to my girls, in everything I say and everything I do!
